Who we are
How and why it all began
The information portal www.kinderkrebsinfo.de („kinderkrebsinfo“) was launched in 2003 as a project of the Society of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology (GPOH) and the Competence Network Paediatric Oncology/Haematology (KPOH). The aim of the initiative was to provide evidence-based information on malignant diseases in children and adolescents and to make the latest scientific findings accessible to both those affected and professionals. Since then, the editorial team of kinderkrebsinfo and of its partner portal www.kinderblutkrankheiten.de (on haematological diseases in children and adolescents) has been working closely with the experts of the GPOH.
The portal was set up by MDs from the Competence Network (KPOH). In 2004, the editorial team was expanded to include specialist editors. Thanks to the support of numerous sponsors including the German José Carreras Leukaemia Foundation ("Deutsche José Carreras Leukämie-Stiftung“, DJCLS) in the years 2004 to 2009 and the German Childhood Cancer Foundation ("Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung“) since 2009 – our initiative has been continuously maintained and developed.
Current status and objectives
As of today, the portal offers comprehensive, evidence-based and quality-assured information on cancer in children and adolescents on over 3,000 pages. Its services are aimed at those affected, especially patients and relatives, as well as doctors, scientists and others working in paediatrics. Our aim is to provide information about the current state of knowledge in paediatric cancer medicine and to further expand the range of information available to all target groups in line with their needs.
All information published on this website has been created by our expert journalists in collaboration with and reviewed by specialists, members and representatives of the Society of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology (GPOH).
Note: By mediating this information, we want to encourage and support structured personal conversations between patients/parents and the involved medical team in the treatment centre, and thus empower the families to be actively participating in the treatment process. Our service is not supposed to substitute conversation between patients, families and their caregiver teams.
